There are moments in life, when the heart is so full of emotion That if by chance it be shaken, or into its depths like a pebble Drops some careless word, it overflows, and its secrets, Spilt on the ground like water, can never be gathered together. -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Rest in peace, Jenn.

Nowhere
watercolor, ink, and origami paper 10x15(click to enlarge)
The bathroom is a place we go thats very separate from the rest of the world. We go not because we want to, but because we need to. It's not exactly a terrible place either, it's just this pocket of space that resides outside of our normal lives that we go to from time to time. It's a "nowhere" amidst all the "somewheres" in our busy lives; it's a break from reality.

Life is full of difficult situations with difficult solutions. Wouldn't it be great if there was some magical way for problems to suddenly solve themselves? Like a Deus ex Machina that would fix everything with little to no effort? Too bad. We are rarely provided with such panaceas, and even when we are, they usually don't cover every base like we hoped they would. When life puts you in a nasty bind, just deal with it the best you can. Sure, you might not come out of it as scot-free as you would like but chances are at very least that you'll make it out alive. Pick yourself up, learn from the experience, and plant an apple tree. When life gives you AIDS, make lemonAIDS. Don't sit around waiting for that miracle cure; chances are you'll be dead by the time its discovered.
get up and stay up.

Cognitive Exoneration
detailsSometimes you encounter something so strangely fascinating that it completely consumes your mind, and in the process sets you free.
Then again, sometimes you encounter really stupid stuff that makes you want to shoot yourself in the face.
Sometimes, a random guy named Niel will contact you and ask if you'll design a t-shirt for his website. This design will (eventually) be printed on t-shirts and sold on www.iratemonkey.net so if you like it you can go buy one (eventually).

When you lose someone, it doesn't really hit you right away. There's always that period where everything seems so surreal, like, "No, that couldn't have happened. It just couldn't." You keep on going, not quite oblivious but also not entirely aware either. Then one night, in the middle of a random dream about an almost forgotten memory, it hits you. She cant be here, she's dead. This is all a dream. You wake up and sit in bed staring blankly at your creepy reflection on the mirrored closet doors. You realize that there was a lot more that you needed to say, a lot more to apologize for, but its too late. You wish that somehow you can have one last proper conversation with her, even if its just in a dream and you're just talking to yourself, telling yourself what you subconsciously wish to hear her say. But it's not really her. It's a fake orange imitation that will just flush away with the incessant buzzing of your alarm clock. The real her is gone, already taken away on a kite long, long ago. It's been almost two whole years. You missed your chance. Mais c'est la vie. Other people have carelessly lost their grip on their own balloons. No one has time to help you find your lost kite, so you just sit there and wait. You just sit there and wait for the incessant buzzing.
RIP Catherine

Hopeful Icebergs
acrylic and ink on wood 12x24(click to enlarge)
details
Humans by nature are hopeful, sometimes a little too hopeful. Jack was hopeful when he stepped foot on the Titanic. He was hopeful when he met Rose. He hopefully hoped that his hopes of being able to live happily ever after with a woman he met and drew naked would come true. Unfortunately, the boat hit a chunk of ice. It was a really big chunk of ice. Nonetheless, Jack was still hopeful that things would be okay. Then the boat started to sink. He still hoped to make it to a lifeboat and escape with his one true love who he just met and barely knew, other than the fact that she was rich and had a huge-ass diamond. Even after he was handcuffed to a pipe by that guy who played the bad guy in The Mummy, he was hopeful. His hopes paid off when he managed to reunite with Rose, and as they bobbed aimlessly on a piece of wreckage in the frigid water, he hoped that a lifeboat would come and save them and they could live happily ever after. Then he died. Moral of the story: if you're in a situation where you're pretty much fucked, you're pretty much fucked. Being hopeful wont help, but people do it anyway. So don't. Seriously. It's just annoying for the rest of us to watch.
Always watch out for the icebergs.
